Lunar New Year celebrations kick off in style on Saturday 1 February with the return of the much-loved Lion Dance Parade.

Lunar New Year Lion Dance Parade

Mark the Year of the Snake as lions truly come alive on Maidenhead High Street. The Lion Dance is traditionally performed to bring prosperity and good luck for the coming year.

Performers from the Eagle Claw Kung Fu School UK have teamed up with Make Maidenhead to bring this spectacular event to the town centre.

The traditional Lion Dance, Kung Fu performance and thunder drumming, producing an exciting display of colour and rhythm, will start at 12.30pm outside Maidenhead Library on St Ives Road.

Lunar New Year free craft activities

Children, young people and families can prepare for the celebrations with a Lunar New Year inspired free craft activity hosted by Craft Coop, taking place in the Nicholsons Shopping Centre from 10am to 12pm. 

The activities are open for ages 3+ and accompanying adults.  Free drop in, no booking necessary.

There'll be singing, costume and books in Maidenhead Library from 1:30pm courtesy of Windsor Chinese Academy.

Lunar New Year street food and community stalls

Enjoy street food and community stalls – including Hong Kong Street Food, traditional milk teas and sweet buns, books and crafts, meditation and mindfulness – outside the Library on St Ives Road between 12pm and 3pm.
