Norden Farm Jazz Club presents Steve Waterman’s Latin Quartet at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 7 August at 8pm. Tickets are £17.50.
Salsa, samba and tango rhythms have always been a source of inspiration for jazz Musicians. Steve Waterman’s passion and knowledge of these art forms will take you on a journey through Latin America.
The concert will feature music from Cuba, Brazil and Argentina with pieces from composers Paquito D’Rivera, Astor Piazzolla, Antonio Carlos Jobim as well as Latin influenced pieces by jazz composers Horace Silver and Steve Swallow and many others.
Steve Waterman is one of the top British jazz trumpet players - both at home and on the international scene. He is a professor of Jazz Trumpet at Trinity College of Music in London and visiting Jazz Trumpet specialist at The Royal Northern College of Music and Drama and The Welsh College of Music and Drama. He has conducted numerous Trumpet masterclasses and workshops ranging in size from small groups to big bands throughout the UK and in Spain, Finland, South Africa and Cuba.
Joining Steve is Alex Hutton on piano. Alex is an established pianist on the London jazz scene. Over the past 10 years, he has worked with most of the leading figures (such as Jim Mullen, Pete King and more). He began playing piano at the age of 5. After completing a BA Hons degree in American Studies, he turned his focus fully to jazz piano. He won the appraisal of the late Ronnie Scott.
Rob Statham is on bass and has recorded and performed with many well-known names across a variety of musical styles, including Mike Stern, John Etheridge, Jim Mullen and many more. Rob also appeared with the Halle Orchestra at the 2007
Manchester International Festival. As a composer in his own right, Rob has had various compositions recorded and broadcast.
Marc Cecil is on drums and percussion and has performed at numerous prestigious UK venues including Wembley Arena, the O2, Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café, Glastonbury Festival and The Royal Opera House.
