Chabrier's Espana, depicting musical travels around Spain, is a rhapsody for orchestra, developed from a piano duet written in 1883 as was referred to a "the start of modern music" by Mahler.
Wijeratne Tabla Concerto, is a breath of fresh air, embracing and original blending cultures marvellously performed by Alok Verma (Tabla), who has carved a niche for himself in the beautiful world of music.
Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade is a well-known symphonic suite composed in 1888 based upon One Thousand and One Nights with dazzling and colourful orchestration. One of the composer's most popular works to complete the afternoon's performance.
