If you enjoy watching some live entertainment at the theatre then you’ll be glad you chose to visit the Windsor and Maidenhead area, with its thriving theatre and buzzing arts centres.
The Theatre Royal is a beautiful Edwardian theatre nestling in the shadow of Windsor Castle. It’s a very intimate space with just 620 seats meaning you are never far from the action!
The Theatre’s repertoire is wide, ranging from the classics to first productions of new work, some of which subsequently transfer to the West End. West End shows without the London price tag: what a bargain!
Live performances include comedy, tragedy, ballet, one-nighters, musicals, theatre, tribute bands, thrillers and the ever-popular annual pantomime!
It’s the only unsubsidised producing theatre to operate all year round in Britain and had the late Bill Kenwright as its Executive Producer.
Why not enjoy a pre-theatre meal? Visit our Food and Drink page for inspiration.
In the summer months, some theatre goes ‘open air’. Independent companies often perform in spaces like Alexandra Gardens (Windsor), The Savill Garden (Windsor Great Park) and the National Trust Gardens at Cliveden.
You can also enjoy live entertainment, including some great theatre performances for families, at our arts centres: Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead and the Old Court in Windsor.
Norden Farm streams live event screenings too so you can enjoy National Theatre Live and opera and ballet from Royal Opera House Live without travelling the distance!
Watch out for performances by local amateur dramatic societies, such as the Windsor Theatre Guild.
