An evening of jazz sounds led by top musicians

An all star line-up head to the Studio for Norden Farm Jazz Club: Dave Barry’s Fourcast Featuring Dave O’Higgins at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 23 October at 8pm. Tickets are £17.50 (plus a £1.90 per transaction booking fee).

Formed in 2023, Fourcast play the music of Don Grolnick, Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea and other iconic jazz composers using a line up of sax, guitar and bass guitar - now augmented by the addition of the keyboard.

Led by drummer Dave Barry, featuring Dave O’Higgins on sax, Mark Ridout on guitar, Alex Hutton on piano and Dave Jones on Bass.

Dave O’Higgins is a popular performer with an excellent sense of pacing and presentation. He has a wide palette from Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, John Colttrane, Joe Henderson through to Stanley Turrentine and Michael Brecker.

He has relentlessly pursued artistic and sonic exploration and development with a deep respect for the tradition of the music. Dave has worked with some of the world’s finest musicians, has appeared with Frank Sinatra at the Royal Albert Hall in 1992 and toured with Ray Charles.

He is a highly regarded educator at the London College of Contemporary Media, where he is the Jazz Pathway leader. Dave also runs a small specialist jazz recording studio, in search of the optimum way of recording jazz musicians through a combination of old techniques (a la Rudy Van Gelder) and newer innovations.

Dave Barry studied percussion in the late 60s at the Royal Academy of Music alongside Pete Jacobsen and Stan Sulzman who were there at the same time. He was a member of the Tim Whitehead Quartet for twelve years and a member of Don Weller’s Quartet for over sixteen years. He has also been a drummer for Don Weller’s Big Band for as long.

Mark Ridout is an experienced guitarist having performed in many of the UK’s major jazz venues. He has performed on TV for Strictly Come Dancing and with Alison Moyet on the Lesley Garrett Show and Is regularly to be heard on the radio in the BBC Big Band.

Dave Jones is one of the most brilliant bass players and his deep musicianship has led him to work with John Etheridge, the BBC Big Band, Jacqui Dankworth and many more. He is bandleader, arranger and composer of the Dave Jones Nonet comprising the crème de la crème of UK jazz musicians.

Alex Hutton is an established pianist on the London jazz scene. Over the years, he has worked with most of the leading figures (such as Jim Mullen, Pete King and more). He began playing piano at the age of five. After completing a BA Hons degree in American Studies, he turned his focus fully to jazz piano - where he won the praise of the late Ronnie Scott.
