After his debut performance at Norden Farm last year, Suntou Susso returns to the intimacy of the venue’s Studio theatre. Suntou is a captivating singer, performer and master of the Kora. The Kora is a 22 string West African harp whose sounds have enchanted listeners and carried the soul of Mandinka culture for over seven centuries.

Suntou Susso is a multi-instrumentalist: kora player, percussionist, singer and composer from The Gambia. He was born into a revered lineage of Gambian Griots – they are historians, storytellers and peacekeepers. Suntou is both a guardian of the traditional and a bold innovator of its future.

As part of this incredible musical tradition, Suntou has a unique societal role as oral historian whilst transmitting and preserving a people’s culture through the generations in song, music and poetry. Suntou’s family includes some of the world’s most highly respected West African musicians. His musical abilities are outstanding, perhaps unique for his generation. An in-demand and charismatic performer, he attracted attention as soon as he arrived on the UK music scene.

Following three years of constant touring and creative exploration since the release of his debut album, Suntou returns with the highly anticipated second album. Expect original compositions and reimagined traditional pieces, reflecting his evolved and elevated sound, grounded in ancestral wisdom yet alive with contemporary expression. His performances radiate humanity and virtuosic artistry.
