Tour of Archives and Library, St George's Chapel

Type:Tour

2 The Cloisters, Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 1NJ
Archives and Library, St George's Chapel

About

Explore the collection of manuscripts and rare books at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle and learn about their history.

You are invited to join a tour of the Archives and Library of St Georges' Chapel. Housed in a 15th Century building in the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle, the Archives and Library are home to a rich collection of documents relating to the history of the Chapel, dating from as early as the 12th century, and handwritten and printed books dating back over 600 years.

Your visit will include a tour of the building led by the Archivists and Librarians and the chance to learn more about the books that were collected by generations of Deans and Canons of St George's Chapel, how they were made and how we look after them today.

You have the option to join a morning tour, starting at 10:30am, or an afternoon tour, starting at 2pm. Both tours last approximately 90 minutes.

All profits from ticket sales will support the Adopt a Book conservation scheme. The scheme helps us to preserve the unique collection of rare books in the Chapter Library of St George’s Chapel, repairing the damage of centuries of dust, dirt, insects, and the inevitable wear and tear of use.
