With so many dog-friendly things to do, and so much open, green space on Windsor's doorstep, there are countless opportunities for some fantastic dog walks making it a short break your pet will thank you for. Windsor Great Park, the Thames Path, vast swathes of National Trust land and a network of widely-used footpaths and byways give access to some of the loveliest countryside and finest reaches of the River Thames.
Four-legged friends are most welcome at the Castle Hotel Windsor and you can bring up to two well-trained dogs and stay in one of their pup-friendly rooms. No need to pack feeding bowls, dog beds or treats – the Castle Hotel Windsor will happily supply these for you. Dogs stay for £30 per dog per night.
Residence Inn Slough have collaborated with leading dog behaviourist Louise Glazebrook and their resident hotel dog Mario to create the Barkshire Break – a paw-esome package that provides every home comfort for your pooch! Including a behaviour box curated especially for Residence Inn Slough by Louise and a copy of her book (‘The Book Your Dog Wishes You Would Read’), a local map of dog-friendly restaurants, parks and places in the area, a delicious and nutritious welcome meal and a dog bed and bowl, the Barkshire Break has everything you need for you and your dog to feel at home during your stay. Most importantly, well-behaved dogs are welcome in every space in the building but the gym.
Doggy afternoon tea at Great Fosters
Great Fosters is very much a dog-friendly hotel with 50 acres of grounds to explore and located moments from Windsor Great Park. Dogs are welcome to stay in their spacious super king bedded suites or luxury king rooms in The Dower House or Cloisters. There are 20 dog-friendly rooms available. Four-legged friends are greeted with their own comfy dog bed, food and drink bowls and treats courtesy of The Dog House to ensure they too experience the full Great Fosters hospitality. There are treats galore for four-legged visitors including a doggy afternoon tea! Dogs can relax with their owners in the Cocktail Bar overlooking the terrace. Owners are welcome to dine from the Estate Grill or bar menu with their pups alongside them. Small and medium-sized dogs are welcome to enjoy a 'pawsome' break at Great Fosters for £40 per stay.
Dogs are always welcome at Cliveden. The hotel prides itself on ensuring all guests experience the finest of stays – including our four-legged friends. Dogs are welcome in all public areas except for The Cliveden Dining Room and The Cliveden Spa and in bedrooms with hot tubs. Dogs receive a towel, water and food bowls, and a dog bed during their stay. A dog menu is also available. There’s an additional room charge of £35 per dog per night. There are plenty of dog-friendly trails on the surrounding National Trust Cliveden estate; read about the levels of doggy access (off lead, short lead, assistance dogs only, etc) on the National Trust website.
Got a four-legged friend? Then do bring your well-behaved dog with you to stay in one of The Christopher Hotel's dog-friendly rooms. The hotel offers direct access to the fields of Eton. Please book in advance. Dogs are charged £20 per stay.
The Royal Adelaide Hotel is perfectly located just by the Long Walk, ideal for daily walkies! The hotel welcomes well-behaved dogs and has some specifically designated dog-friendly rooms. It costs £10 per night to bring your furry friend and this must be booked in advance.
You are very welcome to bring your dog with you when staying at Danesfield House Hotel and Spa. The hotel has 65 acres of gardens and woodlands that dogs will love to explore! Some of the ground floor rooms have direct access to the garden and dogs are welcome in the cocktail bar but no other areas of the hotel unless an assistance dog is required. Dogs are charged £25 per dog, per night. There are beautiful countryside and riverside walking trails around the area and staff will be happy to recommend local dog-friendly pubs too. Need a dog groomer? The hotel has a mobile grooming service available to come to the hotel grounds.
De Vere Beaumont Estate welcomes four-legged guests (weighing no more than 35kg/80lb, about the size of a fully-grown male labrador). Pooches will be treated to the paw-fect stay with their own bowl, bed and delicious treats to enjoy throughout their stay, priced from £30 per dog, per stay. Located in 40 acres of parkland grounds, close to the banks of the River Thames, it's the perfect location to explore with your family and your four-legged friend!
Macdonald Windsor offers six dog-friendly hotel rooms where dogs can stay with their owners for £30 per dog, per night. Well-behaved dogs are more than welcome in their bar and lounge area.
All suites and rooms are dog friendly at Ascot’s Macdonald Berystede where the hotel's stunning gardens make the perfect spot for walkies. Pet dogs are welcome to join their owners in the Diadem Bar and on The Royal Enclosure Terrace. The nightly charge is £25 per dog.
Just over the border in Surrey, discover Macdonald Frimley Hall where dogs stay for £15 per night and all the hotel's rooms are dog friendly. Dogs can join their owners in the bar and lounge, and the hotel's landscaped are perfect for daily exercise.
Guests are welcome to bring their canine companions into Taplow House Hotel's dog-friendly rooms, for an additional charge of £20 per night per dog. Dog beds and bowls will be supplied. Dogs may accompany their owners in the Drawing Room, Bar and on the Terrace; however they are not allowed in the Garden Room Restaurant or Spa Lounge.
Charming Fox Hollow Cottage is located right on the doorstep of Windsor Great Park. The cottage sleeps four people, and one dog is very welcome for an additional fee of £40 per stay. Your dog will love instant access to the park’s ancient royal landscape of forests, grassland, lakes and gardens. And dog owners will love that there’s a country pub right next door!
Sheephouse Manor accepts dogs in all of their five self-catering cottages and also in the West Wing (self-catering suite). There's a dedicated dog run in the paddock and many beautiful walks nearby. Each cottage and West Wing has a private dog escape-proof enclosed patio or garden area. Enjoy an amazing hour’s walk from Sheephouse Manor along the Thames Path to Cookham passing Cliveden Reach on the other bank. Walk through Cookham Vilage and back via National Trust land and Widebrook Common. Dogs are welcome for an additional rate of £5 per pet, per night. Sheephouse Manor can supply dog bowls, wipe-down towels, baskets, leads and cage, and dog walker contact info on request. All pets including cats, rabbits and fish accepted!
Treat your four-legged friend to a luxurious stay with Bray Cottages. All their self-catering cottages welcome dogs and there is a one-off cleaning charge of £50.
Book a doggie sleepover at The Winning Post where there are special packages for overnight stays in this country pub's dog-friendly bedrooms. Complete with their own doggy bed, blanket, bowl and welcome box of tasty treats, up to a maximum of two dogs per room can stay with you, where available, for £20 per pet, per night. You can download some great walking guides, and don't forget to ask at the bar for Sir Woofchester's canine menu!
If you fancy taking your dog on a camping or caravanning adventure then you can bring up to two well-behaved dogs to Hurley Riverside Park's touring and camping pitches. Dogs must be kept on a lead in the Park, including on your pitch. Pick up free dog bags from reception, take advantage of the heated dog wash, and purchase dog shampoo from the shop. The park is located alongside the River Thames and Thames Path making it great for dog walking.
